The 5 stages of God's will

There are times and seasons in God’s will. If we learn God’s will but don’t understand that there are times and seasons in our lives and in the processes of fulfilling God’s will, we can easily become frustrated. The Apostle Paul experienced this personally, saying in Galatians 6:9 (NKJV) “And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart.”

Over the years, through many different lives and situations, God has demonstrated his will in 5 different stages. These are:

STAGE 1 - THE BIRTH OF THE VISION

The first stage of God’s will is revelation by the Holy Spirit. This can be very detailed, or most likely a vague idea or thought. It could be a new and burning desire that the Holy Spirit has placed on your heart. The beginning of God’s will may begin as just a vision that will be revealed further over time.

STAGE 2 - THE PLACE OF PREPARATION

Following the impartation of a vision, follows a time of preparation. Sometimes this time can be weeks, months, or even years. This is the time that a lot of people often choose to give up on the vision because they are unwilling to wait during this time. Preparation requires action. Prayer is key to this, as well as very practical things such as investing time, investing into education or finances. Luke 16:10 (NIV) says, “Whoever can be trusted with very little can also be trusted with much…”, and God rewards those who are faithful during this time of preparation.

STAGE 3 - THE PLACE OF THE WILDERNESS

A common misconception is that if something is the will of God for you then there will be no struggle on the way to accomplishing it. God never promises that we won’t face struggles – instead Jesus says in John 33 (NLT) that, “I have told you all this so that you may have peace in me. Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows. But take heart, because I have overcome the world.” So we should have hope knowing that we will get through the struggles, and that we will be moulded for God’s perfect will along the way.

STAGE 4 - THE REALISATION OF THE VISION

In God’s perfect timing we reach the day that we are all waiting for when God’s vision becomes reality in our lives. We can enjoy the fruits of our diligent preparation and God’s faithfulness throughout this process.

STAGE 5 - NEW BEGINNINGS AND NEW VISION

In different seasons, God will place new visions on our hearts. We should be expectant that at different times of our lives we will experience revelation of the new beginnings that God has planned. With patience, we can expect this cycle again, right through to God’s fulfilment of His promises as an ever-faithful Father.
