Trusting God for healing with assurance

Healing is something that takes place regularly at many of CfaN’s events and conferences, however, it’s something that is seen on fewer occasions in day-today life. This can be difficult when we see people that we love suffering with illness or injury, but James 5:15 says, “the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well; the Lord will raise them up.”

If we, as Christians, believe what the Bible says, then how can we trust God for healing with assurance in our daily lives?

Some of the countries that see the most healings are in African and Asian countries, but this is not because God wants to heal them any more than He wants to heal me and you. Many people in these cultures are surrounded by the ideas of witchcraft, luck, curses and more, and other forms of supernatural occurrences. This means that when introduced to the gospel of Jesus Christ, not only do many of these people receive salvation, but they are also expectant for healing.

How can we trust that God wants to heal us? The God of the Old Testament declared that he is the Healer, and that He never changes. Jesus, as the image of the Father, healed many people, and the power He possessed even flowed through His clothing, as a sick woman was healed as she touched a tassel on his robe.

God made us in His image and so we are a part of His promise He is “making everything new”.  Just as Jesus performed many healing miracles during his life, He told His followers that “whoever believes in me will do the works I have been doing, and they will do even greater things than these” (John 14:12).  However, it can still be difficult as Christians to have faith for healing and to pray with assurance that God will heal today.

There is evidence all over the world that God heals today. Many people struggle with the question of why we don’t see everyone healed that we pray for, but His will is not always done on earth as it is in Heaven. Ultimately the time will come when we see this, but sometimes we cannot know what blockages there are to the healing taking place – we must just trust the Lord.

Despite all that is going on in our lives, or the world today, God’s divine promises are not negated by our problems or the hurdles that we face. Healing is a promise from God as he promises to answer prayer, so we need to keep praying for healing with assurance that God never changes, and His promises are always true.
